Version 2.1

Update October 13, 2026

Payani 2.1 puts your trips on the map: record the route of each journey as it happens, pin every place you visit, plan a trip's stops on a new itinerary timeline, and open a Trip assistant that knows what you're looking at.

Live maps

  • Record the route of a journey as it happens — flights, land and sea travel, auto rentals, and the new Explore type for a walk or a day out — with stats like distance, duration, steps, speed, and stops. Off until you turn it on in Settings, and routes never leave your device.
  • Places — stays, restaurants, and sights — get a saved location: search for it by name or address, use where you are now, or tap the map to move the pin, then Open in Maps.
  • The "Other" event type is retired; existing Other events become Place events.

Trip itinerary

  • Edit trip has a new Itinerary: your stops on a timeline with their dates and nights, the travel between them, and where you're staying, with one-tap fixes for gaps, overlaps, and bookings that don't line up.
  • A Locations list, stops that can repeat (Tokyo, Osaka, Tokyo), and a cover photo you choose, zoom, and reposition.

Today

  • The weather tile opens a 24-hour forecast with today's high and low and PM2.5 (PSI in Singapore); the exchange rate opens a currency converter.
  • With nothing on today, swipe through your upcoming trips and see the tasks due before the next one.
  • Event cards show the trip's photo and let you extend, postpone, complete, or start an event early, with its contacts, tasks, and documents a tap away.

Trip assistant

  • The tab bar now stays on every screen, with the Trip assistant's wand in the middle.
  • The assistant knows which screen and day you opened it from, so "find me lunch" means that day, near where you'll be.
  • A new Automatic assistant setting offers to move a trip's events and due dates when its dates change, and reads newly added documents to suggest events.

Calendar

  • Follow your own location's time or a trip place's local time. Stays show as check-in, each night, and check-out, and journeys that cross time zones show when they depart and arrive.

Redesigned editing

  • New edit screens for trips, events, checklists, documents, and notes, quick-edit sheets throughout, and a "Discard changes?" check so nothing is lost by accident.
  • A redesigned Settings, and your own event types can have an emoji icon.

Also new

  • Search across all your trips, events, tasks, checklists, notes, and documents, and edit what you find in place.
  • Import & export: save trips as a ZIP of spreadsheets, notes, and documents, edit them, and bring them back — or start a new trip from a folder.
  • Event contacts you can call or message from Today, notes with formatting, documents you can rename, a Sea travel event type ("Transport" is now "Land travel"), one-level checklists, and a pure black dark mode.

Bug fixes and polish

  • Trips created by the assistant now show their country flags, the hourly weather starts at the right hour, and fields stay above the keyboard on every edit screen, plus many smaller layout and reliability fixes.

Version 2.0

Redesign October 2, 2026

Payani's first visual redesign: a new "Trailhead" look sampled from the app's own icon, four-tab navigation, and a trip assistant that now works across every trip at once.

A new look: Trailhead

  • A forest-green and compass-gold palette sampled from the app icon, new typefaces (Fraunces and DM Sans), and four tabs — Today, Calendar, Trips, Settings — replacing the old house-button navigation.

Today, rebuilt

  • Down to two sections: "Happening now," the one event in focus, and "Later today" for what's overdue and what's coming up.

Calendar, now a tab of its own

  • Cross-trip Day, 3-Day, Month, and List views in one place, with a trip filter and pinch-to-zoom.

Trips and trip assistant

  • Photo-first trip cards, multi-city trips with their own per-leg dates, and one trip assistant reachable from anywhere that works across every trip you have.

Also new

  • In-app notifications, custom event types and colors, folders for documents, checklists, and notes, and a trip assistant that reviews a shared document or a trip's shifted dates before anything changes.

Version 1.3

Update September 1, 2026

A currency converter joins the Today screen, the AI assistant now knows exactly what your chosen provider can do with documents, and a batch of Android fixes and UI polish rounds things out.

AI assistant

  • Settings' "Test connection" now also checks whether your AI provider and model can actually read images and PDFs, instead of assuming only Claude can.
  • The trip assistant can now read boarding passes, PDFs, and photos on more providers — including OpenRouter's vision-capable models — not just Claude.

Today screen

  • New currency converter under Quick tools, alongside weather — type an amount in either currency, with a smart default pair based on your active or upcoming trip.
  • The converter now remembers your last currencies and amounts when you switch to Weather and back, resetting only when you relaunch the app.
  • Section headers (Quick tools, My trips, Outstanding tasks, Calendar) are now fully tappable to expand or collapse, with clearer, more even spacing between them.
  • The trips strip now shows your upcoming trips by default, with past trips a scroll away, plus smoother snap-to-item scrolling throughout.

Bug fixes and polish

  • Fixed OpenRouter users being told document reading only works on Claude, even when their model actually supports it.
  • Fixed the AI assistant's Send button occasionally not responding to the first tap on some Android devices.
  • Fixed several Android-only assistant issues: the status and navigation bar peeking through the chat window, the keyboard covering the chat card as it grew, and long proposed titles getting cut off instead of wrapping.
  • Fixed Settings' Token size field not selecting all existing text when tapped.

Version 1.2

Update September 1, 2026

The trip assistant can now read what's actually in your documents, plus fixes for trip photos and weather reliability.

AI assistant

  • Ask the assistant to use a document's actual content — for example, "create an event from this boarding pass" — and it will read the file to fill in the details, only when you ask it to. See the privacy policy for what that sends to your AI provider.
  • Added a Feedback link in the About screen for reporting bugs or requesting improvements.

Bug fixes and polish

  • Fixed trip cover photos never showing up on the web version.
  • Fixed the Today screen's weather card silently showing nothing when your location couldn't be found — you'll now see a clear error instead.

A more complete weather picture on the Today screen, pull-to-refresh, and general reliability improvements.

Weather

  • Sunrise and sunset markers now show right on the Today screen's hourly weather ribbon.
  • Fixed the current-conditions icon occasionally disagreeing with the "Now" hourly chip.

Payani's first release: a private, on-device trip planner that keeps everything for a trip — the plan, the packing list, the tickets, the notes — in one place.

Today screen

  • A single glanceable landing screen for local weather, a horizontally-scrolling strip of your trips, and everything happening — or overdue — across every trip, ordered by date.

Calendar

  • Day, 3-day, month, and list views, with events color-coded by category and their icon and description shown right on the block.
  • Trip names on calendar entries link straight back to that trip.

Checklists

  • Packing lists and to-dos grouped by date, with optional due dates.
  • One consistent edit popup for checklist items everywhere in the app.

Documents & notes

  • Attach boarding passes, confirmations, and photos to a trip or a specific event, including straight from another app's share sheet.
  • A notes section for the details that don't fit anywhere else.

AI assistant (optional)

  • Bring your own API key from Anthropic, OpenAI, OpenRouter, Google Gemini, Mistral, Groq, Together AI, DeepSeek, xAI, or a self-hosted model.
  • Draft an itinerary, find real flights, hotels, and restaurants, or set checklist due dates from a plain-English request — including creating a trip and its events in a single request.

Private by design

  • No account, no server of ours in the loop. Every trip, checklist, and document lives only on your device.
